We’ve all been hearing rumors about Windows Mobile 7. You’ve probably seen the leaked screenshots, and I go over some of them here. We don’t really know if those represent the Standard/Smartphone version or the Professional/Pocket PC version of the operating system, or if there are even going to be multiple versions of Windows Mobile 7. Most of the screen shots indicate a move towards the Windows Mobile Standard style interface. You can even see that one of these mockups for a home screen has already made it into Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard Edition.

So now that we’ve seen Windows Mobile 6.1, what kind of features are on your wish list for Windows Mobile 7? What do you really want to see?
Post your list in the comments link and maybe Microsoft will get the message.

I'm pretty excited about Vringo's new Facebook app for a number of reasons. First, I'm a big fan of Vringo's video caller ID service, which lets users choose a video ringtone (vringo) that plays on their friends' phone when they initiate a call to said friend. ...

Windows Mobile 6.1Microsoft today announced a new version of Windows Mobile at CTIA Wireless 2008. The company also unveiled a new version of Internet Explorer Mobile, which brings desktop grade browsing and support for Flash and Silverlight technologies. The update also features new time-saving features, easier phone navigation and management, and increased security safeguards.

"People want a single phone that's flexible enough to meet their needs throughout their day, whether it's connecting to work or your everyday life," said Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. "The innovations we've added to our Windows Mobile software ultimately make it easier to manage your world."

I for one am very glad to see that March is over! Now spring is just a wee bit closer (the calendar says it’s here, but we know better!) and as I get ready for my upcoming series of teleseminars, I’m looking forward to opening my office window and letting in some fresh air. Speaking of those teleseminars, the president of AORCP (the host organization) said it was OK to offer free registration to non-members to this Thursday’s session on Organizing Your Home Office, so if you’re interested in t

I've always wondered why you couldn't have a touchscreen Smartphone. After all, the Pocket PC and Smartphone versions of Windows Mobile have been converging, so why hasn't somebody combined the finger-friendly aspects of the Smartphone with the easy navigation and text selection of a touchscreen?

Well, thanks to a shortage of LCD displays in certain sizes last year and an enterprising hacker, you might already have one.

Apparently there was a shortage of smaller LCDs last year, so some Smartphone OEMs used existing stocks of smaller touchscreens. Because Smartphones aren't supposed to have touchscreens, they obviously didn't announce his. However, an enterprising hacker at XDA Developers named Hacksalot412008 wondered if that touchscreen could be activated, so he tracked down one of the phones and went to work.

It turns out that activating the touchscreen is very simple. Just get a copy of touch.dll from the \Windows folder of a Pocket PC, copy it to your Smartphone's \Windows folder, do a soft reset and, if you have one of the special phones, you'll be able to use the touchscreen. You'll obviously need to get your own stylus, but see the photo for an ...
