Normally, when removing the stylus from the
HTC Touch Diamond, the device will automatically turn on and unlock. Or if you're in a call and remove the stylus, it will open the Notes application. Well, now you can customize the actions or applications launched when you both remove and insert the stylus into the Diamond's silo.
The software costs $7 and can be found at
Kai's Pocket PC Software.

Im sure most of you heard about the upcoming Android Operating Systems screen locking feature (seen in the image down below). Keeping it short, for those who have not - it will be a little bit harder to unlock Android based devices than tapping unlock twice in Windows Mobile. The unlocking procedure will involve a certain pattern or sequence in the gestures, which will unlock the device only when it matches the programmed one. Steve Horowitz from Google makes a demonstration in
this video (around min. 2:00).
ThrottleLock 0.1 is a Windows Mobile version of the Android screen lock and it comes from the makers of the well-known ThrottleLauncher.
ThrottleLock is fully skinable. You can achieve the aspect of your choice by editing the default graphics that come in the package. Also, ThrottleLock, in its initial stock state, does not support VGA resolution displays but by editing the same graphics (practically doubling them in size) or creating new ones makes it fully compatible with the VGA display. Since it involves touching the screen,
ThrottleLock will only be compatible with touch screen WinMo devices.

Sprint has usually been one of the cheapest for internet and data access. With users looking on with the announcement of the $15 add on for the Phone as Modem (PAM) plan, internet sites are reporting that the plans aren't as cheap as they appear on first glance. According to
Engadget Mobile, the tethering plan requires another data plan with a data-capable phone connected to your laptop. This means that you at least need a Power Vision plan, plus $15 to tether, plus your regular voice plan. Sprint's old PAM plan was $49.99 and included all data aspects. This new plan just seems like marketing talk.

In a rather unsurprising move, beleaguered wireless provider
Sprint Nextel has slashed the cost of their "Phone as Modem" PAM (aka Dial-up-network) service. The plan now is only $15/month, down from the steep $40 and $50/month previous prices. While any service discounts are always welcome from the perspective of the company's users, this is mostly likely an attempt to possibly stem some of the substantial user churn the company is experiencing. Sprint's customer turnover problems are widely documented in the industry, as indicated by this
New York Times article from June.
Sprint has also seen fit to reshuffle some of its rules and restrictions for the service in the process. It must be combined with a data plan for data-capable feature phones and smartphones. An EVDO Rev. 0 or Rev. A handset is required to utilize the service and either wired or wirelesss Bluetooth connectivity can be used.

Poll: Do You Use a Case with Your Device? (
polls)
So I've been using the
HTC Touch Pro with the included case/sleeve for the last few days. Using the sleeve quickly reminds me why I've always strayed form using cases with previous phones: they add bulk to the device, plus they often add another step in its operation (that of removing the case).
Sure, all cases are different - some add less bulk, and some don't require removal to access the device. But generally speaking, what's your preference on using a case with your device?

Windows Mobile Operating Systems use the term of beam or beaming to describe every file communication between two or more devices based on Infrared (IrDa) or Bluetooth (BT). Being so, beaming a file would mean sending it via IrDa or BT (beam) to another device. When you receive a file by IrDa or BT to your device, you actually receive a beam. Beam works between all IrDa and Bluetooth enabled devices, so you can send t and receive beams from devices that are not actually Windows Mobile powered (like desktops, notebooks, regular cell phones).
Ever been in a situation where a co-worker or friend wanted to beam you a file and you received an error simply because the files size exceeded the available space on the device? Im sure Ive been!
By default, Windows Mobile saves any beam-received files to DEVICE (My Documents folder, to be more specific).
hc4s OBEX Inbox addresses this huge annoyance with Windows Mobile environments by allowing the user to select a place, anywhere on device really, and this includes Internal Storage or Storage Card, where any incoming beamed files will be stored. Very useful for large documents, pictures, music or videos. Most ...

After the immense success of his previous versions, XDA Developers user schaps released Advanced Configuration Tool v.3.0.
Being one of the most advanced tweaking utilities for the Windows Mobile platform (both Standard and Professional), it allows its users to experiment with more than 200 tweaks (addressing performance, stability, power management, UI tweaks and HTC Touch Diamonds TouchFlo 3D interface included) with added support for VGA display devices.
The application is completely customizable, which means that everyone can add or remove functionalities to their liking. New tweaks can be added via the import command that supports provisioning XML (provxml) format (also there is a possibility to export current settings to same format for later reference or restoration).
Available system tweaks are organized in main categories for easy reference and usage (User Interface, Today, Performances, Power Management, Screen, and many more), covering up pretty much everything that actually can be tweaked (let it be aspect, performance or stability) in a Windows Mobile environment.
Advanced Configuration Tool v.3.0 is a very powerful utility which can make your device run smooth and fast but it can also affect normal functionality if tweaked randomly. Please make sure to back up ...

We had previously reported that Sprint will have their own version of the GSM
Touch Diamond in CDMA flavor called the
Sprint Victor, which will have a smooth, rounded back instead of the faceted jeweled back found on its globe-trotting GSM cousin. However,
Howard Forums is reporting that the CDMA cousin will be thicker as well, perhaps to accommodate a slightly larger battery. Howard Forums also notes that the CDMA version is slightly more comfortable to hold, so if longer battery life and ergonomics is more important than chic styling, then the Victor is quite the winner despite the added heft. The picture below shows a comparison shot with the Victor on the bottom.
