All About The Samsung Omnia This is one really great phone and there’s been a lot of news about it this past week. So much so that rather than doing a headline for each one, I decided to consolidate them all into this one post. For starters, the::unwired has found out that the Samsung Omnia variants (i900, i900v and i908) and is now GCF (Global Certification Forum) approved. This means that they are network and GSM/3GPP standard compliant and support quadband GSM, UTRA FDDI (UMTS at 2100 MHz

It looks like the first review of the WQVGA touchscreen Samsung i900 Omnia is in over at the::unwired with Arne over there giving a pretty high first impression. The camera is one of the best Windows Mobile camera with a bright LED and 5 megapixels. HSDPA, a fast ROM, widescreen display, aGPS, FM radio, and the Samsung Widgets help to make the device stand out above the pack. I kind of like the Widget actually although I am not sure how well it works on such a narrow screen.

The detailed review and videoview could be seen over at the::unwired.

LOL...wow these guys must have a lot of spare time to pour over those dry FCC filings. However the good news is at least they do a bang up job and their bff the FCC has not filed that restraining order for stalking yet… Quote: We here at Engadget Mobile tend to spend a lot of way too much time poring over the latest FCC filings, be it on the net or directly on the ol’ Federal Communications Commission’s site. Since we couldn’t possibly (want to) cover all the stuff that goes down there, we’ve gathered up all the raw info you may want (but probably don’t need). Enjoy! Samsung has really been blowing the competition out when it comes to multimedia capabilities, in particular photo and video capturing. The new Samsung i8510 will probably never make its debut in the United States, but it is definitely drool-worthy.

Engadget Mobile is reporting that the device will feature an 8-megapixel camera, 120 frames per second video capturing at QVGA resolution, dual LED flashes, and DivX and DLNA certification. In addition, it runs on the S60 platform, which is the same platform that powers Nokia's smartphones like the N95. Hardware-wise, the device has most others beat: FM radio, WiFi, GPS, 16 GB of storage with expandable memory card.

It'd be nice if good ol' Sammy would share the same high-res photo love for Windows Mobile.

WMExperts is reporting that the Samsung i907 has passed FCC testing. Samsung models ending in a 7 usually are headed to AT&T. While passing the FCC hurdles does not necessarily mean a carrier release as the device can be canned at any point, it does show some promise given that the BlackJack II has now been on the market for some time and probably needs a refresh.

Not much is known as far as specs or details. However, there are speculations across the internet that AT&T will adopt a North American-specific model of the i780/788. The phone features a square 320 X 320 touchscreen display similar to the Palm Treo 800w currently just released on Sprint.

Also of note, unlike Palm, Samsung's iteration will come with a flush screen and probably not as many enhancements as the well-lauded Palm enhancements. Instead, Samsung will pobably add its own "touch interface" to make the device more finger-friendly rather than adding solid user applications in the case of the Treo 800w to make it a compelling business no-frills device.

GSM Arena put the HTC Touch Diamond toe to toe with the Samsung i900 Omnia. Quote: It’s PocketPC playoffs and HTC are giving Samsung a match at the GSM Arena. With two of the stars of the season arriving in our office all at once, we thought it’s a heck of an opportunity for some Diamond-Omnia-Diamond-Omnia-Diamond-Omnia game-set-match with a pinch of iPhone flavor. We got two aces up to the challenge, so sit back and stretch out. Ah well, get that six-pack too and join us for the kick-off. Wow. It’s a complete 9 page screen shot shootout with all the deets on both models ramping up the final climatic: iPhone 3G is still to see a reality check, but it’s almost sure that these two can give the latest Apple device a good fight. Maybe they still can’t challenge the iPhone interface, but they are finally getting closer. With HTC Touch Diamond and Samsung i900 Omnia, Windows Mobile handsets no longer seem chubby and nerdy. The next generation of PocketPCs match style with the best performance in their class. Read all the details here: HTC Touch Diamond vs. Samsung i900 Onmia

While we tend to focus a lot on the high-end smartphones, there are users that don't want to pay the extra bucks to get high speed net access on their device and would be quite content with EDGE speeds for the mobile net. For those users, the Samsung Omnia would not be the right device. As such, according to Unwired View, Samsung will be releasing the i740 Windows Mobile Professional phone for those who are comfortable browsing using 2.5G data speeds.

The device does pack in some punch with a fast processor, GPS, and built-in FM radio. According to the Unwired View, the specs are:

-Quadband GSM (850/900/1800/1900) GPRS/EDGE connectivity
-Windows Mobile professional 6.1
-Monahan LV 624 MHz CPU
-2.8 QVGA 320×240px touchscreen with VibeTonz haptics feedback
-3 megapixel camera with business card reader
-Built-in GPS
-FM Radio
-microSD memory card slot (up to 4GB)
-Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, USB 2.0
-Dimensions: 107×59x13.8mm

WiFi is not available and neither is a keyboard. No word on pricing or release yet.
