Research in Motion (RIM) is upping the game with the soon to be released BlackBerry 9000, which is rumored to have the name the BlackBerry Bold, much like the 8300 series became the BlackBerry Curve. The Bold is seen as an advanced PDA that combines the consumer multimedia of the BlackBerry Curve and the professional looks from the BlackBerry 8800 series.

Does the BlackBerry Bold have what it takes to compete in the consumer segment with the HTC Touch Diamond and the iPhone?

According to CrackBerry, the specs are:

*Size - Length: 144mm, Width: 66mm, Thickness: 14mm
*Weight (with battery) - 133g (same as the 88xx series. I can attest to it!)
*Memory - 1GB on-board (storage) and 128 MB Flash (applications)
*Battery - 1500mAhr lithium cell
*Est. Battery Life - Standby: 13 days, Talk Time: 5 hours
*Network Support - UMTS: 2100 / 1900 / 850MHz, GSM: 1900 / 1800 / 900 / 850 MHz, GPRS, EDGE and HDSPA networks
*Wi-Fi - 803.11a/b/g enabled
*Display - HVGA, 480 x 320 pixels, Transmissive TFT LCD, supports over 65k colors

The Startrek smartphone was a popular phone for many reasons--it was one of the few in the clamshell form factor. Most smartphones are either candybar or sliders. It looks like Research in Motion wants to revive the form factor, but will it have much success? HTC canned the design for several years now.

According to The Boy Genius Report, the phone will come as the BlackBerry Kickstart with a big external and internal screen, a navigation trackball like the BlackBerry Pearl, and a SureType keyboard.

Is this the answer to the missing form factor? If you aren't opposed to the BlackBerry OS, you may want to check out the Kickstart when it is released within the year.

No more information was available, including pricing nor availability.

The new Pearl 8120 arrives at T-Mobile The Pearl 8120 has been out and about in the global community for awhile now, but it is just now making its way to the major North American carriers. If you are going crackberry and joining the BlackBerry craze like our recent post, you may realize there are some programs that you truly enjoy and wish to have on the new platform. One such program may be SlingPlayer, which operates on the SlingBox via your mobile internet connection, so you can stream your favorite shows live to your handheld. Recently, the makers of SlingPlayer have begun porting that application to the BlackBerry, and reports say that it works well over WiFi and on EDGE, the slower 2.5 G internet network.

If you're considering a BlackBerry, you may want to check out the short video of SlingPlayer in action on a BlackBerry device.

The BlackBerry 8800 has one of the most beautiful industry designs for a full QWERTY BlackBerry from maker Research in Motion. It looks like Velocity Mobile is taking the beautiful body and adding the brains of Windows Mobile Professional to the mix. The specs are said to be high-end, per Engadget Mobile for the QWERTY 111 model with TV-out, QVGA screen, and tri-band HSUPA for high speed download and upload.

The keyboard and navigation buttons look very similar to the BlackBerry 8800. The device also utilizes the trackball instead of the traditional directional pad.

There will be a model without a keyboard that sports Windows Mobile Professional and looks similar to the T-Mobile Shadow. This device, modeled the 103, will have a VGA touchscreen and a trackball.

I personally like both designs, however, because I love a full physical keyboard I will probably lean towards the 111. I also like the homescreen Widget.
