Our friend Matt Miller over at ZDNet postulates some sort of a Nokia and Zune mashup. Here is a quote:
There have been rumors floating around of a Zune phone and I personally am not that excited about such a device and wonder if many people really are. The latest rumors about the Zune and phones though does seem to make a bit of sense. Zunescene reported that Nokia iw working with the Zune team on integration of Zune Marketplace content. Nokia has a music store, but it is not available in the United States yet and I think if Nokia could get their devices to support the Zune Marketplace they would have a fairly well established library of music content that actually may help sell more Nokia devices in the U.S.
http://blogs.zdnet.com/mobile-gadgeteer/?p=1330
Zunescene has a piece that seems to place this development into further relief with a comment from a well placed source.
Nokia is currently working with the Zune team on integration of Zune Marketplace content according to a well placed source within Microsoft. The joint development is directed at content delivery rather than a hardware device according to the source. It has long been assumed by many tech followers ...

Unwired View has reported that the
Nokia N96, the successor to the
Nokia N95 will be available for sale in the UK starting October. Carphone Warehouse, 3, Phones4U, Orange, T-Mobile, and Vodafone are the carriers that will be launching the phone.
The phone offers a great camera with the only downside is the lack of a Xenon flash. I like how the camera's bezel doubles as a kickstand to watch videos or hold the phone up.

This has been popping up around the nets today. Nokia maker of my precious N810 that I am currently in a love hate relationship with has as Cheuvreux analyst David Hallden put it; “I think they’re doing a ‘Crazy Ivan’.” This of course referring to naval maneuvers when a submarine makes a sudden sharp turn; remembered notably in ‘The Hunt for Red October.’
With the mounting pressure from global economic woes and a diluted market share (thanks Apple and Samsung) Nokia’s hand has been forced and cuts have been made to the entire portfolio. Could this be a sign that Nokia is hell bent to keep it’s 40% market share?
Hmmm, well until my n810 gets a complete Bluetooth stack/client maybe they need to get knocked down a peg or two...it’s not the price it’s the features.

On Thursday, mobile browser start-up Skyfire announced the opening of a private beta for the Symbian Series 60 (S60) platform--nearly a week after a Symbian users Web site busted the news.
Skyfire is positioned as a resource-light Web browser that relies on Web servers to deliver a desktop browsing experience. I covered Skyfire soon after its initial Windows Mobile release and agree that it has a nice design and good potential; however, with rendering and crashing issues, it's not nearly ready for open beta. That's too bad because adding an identical build for Symbian means that Skyfire has two platforms in private beta with some tall performance hurdles to leap.

Skyfire will debut on 10 Nokia handsets, including the high-end N95 and E71.

Going global (and taking on Opera)
Skyfire's Symbian beta program is the mobile browser's second platform, and its entree into the European market, where it will be rolling out later this year. This move improves Skyfire's competitive position against Opera Mobile, whose release of a free version 9.5 beta for Symbian is also ...

SkyFire, the browser that supports Flash and many mobile standards because content is cached and streamed off the company's server to a user's handheld, is now debuting its beta for S60 smartphones, the operating system that runs on top of Symbian and is found on Nokia smartphones. If you own an S60 handset, including the venerable
Nokia N95, you may want to give the browser a try. Registration for the beta is available through the
SkireFire webpage.
Let us know how it performs and compares to the Windows Mobile version.

Nokia is aiming to enter the midrange smartphone market to compete with touchscreen-based handsets like the iPhone and the Touch Diamond. However, as it stands, early prototypes of the Nokia Tube, also known as the 5800 XpressMusic phone offers little to salivate for. Icons and keyboard look dated and unpolished. In its current iteration, the keyboard looks like something you would find on a non-smartphone device. You can check out more pictures from
Gizmodo.
What stands out, however, is a widescreen 16:9 ratio touchscreen for widescreen video playback. Its 3.2-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and WVGA screen should prove to be worthy for the market. Let's hope Nokia spruces up the interface a little to make the device drool-worthy.

After being developed under heavy secrecy with the moniker "Project White Rock" - an allusion to the game's intended addictive qualities - Nokia's flagship mobile title for its reimagined N-Gage mobile platform was unveiled in May as Reset Generation, an action/puzzle game that somehow fuses Tetris, Bomberman, and Super Mario Bros., among others. The game is the dream project of producer Scott Foe, who has been bandying the idea around since his teen years. It is being produced in conjunction

It looks like the folks in Espoo are being more generous. As was reported on
Engadget Mobile, Nokia is buying Symbian, the software platform behind its smartphones, and then donating the source code to the Symbian Foundation to further the development of the software in an open source environment. The Symbian Foundation intends on making the code completely open source in the next two years.
An open source Symbian would be more competitive with the
Android platform from Google, which took its start as a completely open source initiative. Moreover, with AT&T as a partner in the Symbian Foundation, perhaps that could lead to more handset sales in the United States as Nokia has had very little market penetration on this side of the pond.
For those unfamiliar to Symbian, Symbian is the core platform which runs select handsets from Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and others. Typically, Sony Ericsson adds its own interface on top of Symbian to make it more user-friendly in the form of the UIQ platform. Nokia adds its "S" interface on top of Symbian in such flavors as the S40 and S60 interfaces found in popular devices such as the ...
