HTC decided to skip the USA for the Touch HD, but will the company eventually enter the American market with an enterprise-level device? SlashGear seems to think so and is speculating that the Touch HD Pro may be coming, essentially the Touch HD with a sliding keyboard like the Touch Pro.

I think many mobile phone pundits have Americans as boring workaholics who enjoy the added benefits of a keyboard while sacrificing style. The Touch HD Pro would make sense for this segment of the population. However, not releasing a keyboard-less version of some variety in the USA would simply be ignoring a bigger consumer segment who is slowly beginning to adopt smartphones, especially now that the iPhone has made the term smartphone more chic.

Still, the Touch HD Pro is in the rumor mill for now. Even if it does get developed, it may not come to the US.

To get from Windows Mobile 6 to 6.1 isn't an overnight process - in fact, it's a multiple-month process, which often leaves consumers frustrated by a long wait. I just listened to a podcast from .NET Rocks where Windows Mobile software architect Rob Tiffany gives some insight into the update process.

So, take the AT&T Tilt, which is made by HTC, as an example. First, Microsoft issues the updated version of Windows Mobile to HTC. HTC engineers, once they receive the update from Microsoft, will get to work in integrating the drivers and customizations so that the OS uses the right screen resolution, responds to the hardware keyboard, works with the CPS chip, and so on.

When HTC is done with the update, they sent it to AT&T, where logos, colors, and programs are altered. If something breaks, AT&T works with HTC to get it right. After all is said and done, many months can go by until the update is ready for download by the consumer, and that is why it can be a long wait.

Since HTC's TouchFLO 3D interface found on the Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, and Touch HD uses HTC's own audio manager software to manage and play music libraries, they've left the default Windows Media Player alone in terms of skin customizations.

The problem with that is HTC's audio player is not a very good replacement for Windows Media Player. It doesn't have library search capabilities, it doesn't play videos and recorded TV shows synced over from the desktop, and most importantly, it can't be controlled using Microsoft Voice Command or Cyberon Voice Commander. So should you want to use any of those features, you would be stuck with the default Windows Media Player skin, which totally doesn't match the TouchFLO 3D Manilla interface at all.

Luckily, Poorlyduck of XDA-Developers, has designed a Manilla style skin for Windows Media Player. His original version is for QVGA devices only however. An altered VGA compatible version has surfaced in a few custom ROM's, and the credits are listed as coming from a PDAVIET user named Tmap. The VGA version is available here and QVGA is here.

While we already know that Micheal Knight's love interest, Sarah Graiman (Deanna Russo), carries around a S.E. Xperia X1 for her high tech mobility eye candy, this week on Knight Rider we learn that Micheal (Justing Bruening) uses the HTC Touch. If you saw this week's episode, you'll notice that unfortunately he was unable to launch the Touch's camera application quickly enough to obtain photo identity of the female antagonist who stole the secret briefcase. This is a common problem with smartphone camera applications in general and hopefully will be remedied in the future.

We're not entirely sure who to believe on this one. First, HTC had sent out a Twitter message to all interested parties that the beloved Touch HD will not be coming to the United States. Now, according to some news from MobileTopSoft, it looks like the device may be coming to the USA via T-Mobile. According to the article, the HTC-made device will be coming as the G2 to the magenta-based American carrie; the G1 is a an Android-based device for the operating system and also made by HTC.

If T-Mobile brings the Touch HD to the USA, it will be internally re-worked to support T-Mobile USA's band of 3G for data and voice communication. T-Mobile operates on an entirely different frequency than the rest of the world and rival AT&T; it had won newly released spectrum in a prior auction.

There is no telling whether the G2 will run Windows Mobile or will be released to T-Mobile with Android.
