Orange has snagged an exclusivity deal with HTC to be the sole provider for the Touch HD until 2009 in the UK. That means if you're a UK reader and you want the Touch HD before the holidays, you'll have to get one either unlocked from HTC or through Orange. The device will begin shipping in November of this year from £79.99 on an 18 month, £40 per month contract according to MSMobileNews.

With the iPhone 3G, Apple has been pushing aggressively to get the phone competitively priced at $200 and $300 for the 8 GB and 16 GB high speed device respectively. New findings from an analyst at Needham Research shows that Apple still has plenty of room to play with. The fruit company could potentially lower the prices by yet another $100. Even at the new lower price point, combined with carrier subsidy to Apple and the iPhone's economy of scale, Apple could still have a potential 42% margin to play with. If Apple does drop the price of the iPhone, it may put pressure on other manufacturers.

Since the introduction of the iPhone, many smartphones and regular phones (i.e. Samsung Instinct) have been priced around the $200 sweet spot. BlackBerry and Nokia devices, when subsidized by carriers, seem to be hovering around the $200-$300 range. Microsoft's WIndows Mobile partners may have to adjust their prices accordingly to fit the new prices if Apple wants to drop the prices. According to Electronista, an iPhone price drop could potentially double or triple the iPhone market share.

It's been a little more than a year since Google Android was announced and rumors of a little device called the HTC Dream started to leak onto the Web.

As many of you may know, T-Mobile was the first carrier in the USA to release HTC's first phone (the HTC Wallaby) which was also the first full touch screen smart phone available in North America. It was running Windows Mobile, then known as Pocket PC Phone Edition and, at the time, was the most powerful smartphone around. That was six years ago.

Today, T-Mobile has released HTC's first phone that does not run Windows Mobile. The G1 run's Google's first attempt at a smartphone operating system called Android. Stay tuned as we cover this new entry into the smartphone market in detail.
