Today I received an the Glofiish V900, E-TEN's top of the line Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro device that brings a VGA screen, fast Samsung processor, TV tuner, and aGPS/WiFi/HSDPA/FM Radio to a form factor similar to the HTC Touch. It also does TV-out, and thankfully comes with the cables to do so (unlike the HTC Touch Pro).

At first glance, the design of the V900 isn't very impressive. It looks like an HTC Touch but is a lot less elegant with heavy use of plastic and an unconventional blue/gray metallic paint job. But looks can be deceiving, and I look forward to giving the device a comprehensive evaluation.

The number three wireless carrier in the US will be getting some HTC love soon. According to Engadget Mobile, details of a leaked roadmap for future releases reveal that Sprint will be getting the Diamond in mid-September for $549 unsubsidized and the Touch Pro on October 19 for $579 unsubsidized. The subsidized prices will be considerably lower at $399 and $429 respectively after a two-year service agreement. Not quite iPhone goodness for signing away your soul to number three for two years, but you at least will manage to get a device that won't crash and will give you turn-by-turn navigation, which should be included in the unlimited package. Not a bad deal, Sprint.

Having the configuration menu reorganized, new version 3.1 now offers full support for HTC Touch Pro, while adding some new and important features like the “must have” SmartTouch settings (which allow users to enable other functions of the touch wheel on Diamond and Touch Pro, like scrolling for instance, with application specific customization options). This update also offers users the option to have their Wi-Fi enabled while device on standby mode, which is very useful when connected to an Instant Messaging client through wireless. Today we posted about HTC's freshly announced, Diamond-inspired, WinMo 6.1 Standard device, known as the S740, and we noted that it to be quite similar to the S730, save for a few things on the specs sheet.

How do they compare in terms of size? Sizeasy shows us that the S740 (in purple) is thinner, taller, and not nearly as wide as the S730.

Wow, look at this. It's essentially an HTC S730 but dressed to impress, with cues from the Diamond and Touch Pro all the way from the faceting backing to the marketing that HTC is using to push this device (check out the HTC website to see what I mean).

The spec sheet for the S740 is quite similar to the S730 except for a thinner casing, more RAM, aGPS, and a faster processor. It has a Qualcomm MSM7225 528MHz CPU, 256ROM/RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, aGPS, and a 1000mAh battery. It's a GSM phone with HSDPA, but because of the lack of UMTS850 band, this variant won't get 3G in the US. It's slated to start shipping in Europe next month.

I'm also sensing some interface enhancements (could there be a "TouchFLO" coming for non-touchscreen devices? The press materials make no mention of that). Notice the messaging switcher there in the first picture, which has been skinned.

It's good to see HTC still working on Windows Mobile Standard devices - for those of us that still like the experience that it brings. Thoughts on the S740?
