As posted over at AllShadow.com, you can skin your non-touchscreen Windows Mobile phone to look like the Touch Diamond in some aspects (like the clock). I've been using the skin for a few days and I really like the quick access to weather, favorite people, and messaging. Here are the steps to get it running:

1. First download this CAB and send it to your phone in the My Documents directory (or some other directory you'll remember). Run the CAB. This is for the original HTC Home plugin for Standard/Smartphone that you'll need before you can apply the Diamond theme.
2. Then download this CAB and send it to your phone in the My Documents directory. This CAB is for the Diamond skin.
3. Go Start > Settings > Home screen, then select "HTC 2".

Enjoy! =D

Owners of HTC's TyTN II have had some issues with slow video on their devices due to the fact that HTC did not license the driver from chip-manufacturer Qualcomm. Now, it looks like a solution is emerging from the community at HTC Class Action.

The video below shows the Open GL ES application running. According to HTC Class Action:

The OpenGL ES driver provides the base for the Direct3D driver on the MSM7200 and MSM7500 platforms, which in turn provides the DirectDraw (2D) capability; so getting the OpenGL ES driver to work correctly should be a big step in getting D3D and DD working.

The T-Mobile Dash was one of those phones that people were inexplicably attracted to, despite its lackluster specifications (200MHz processor, no 3G, no GPS, etc). It felt good in the hand and exhibited good performance.

So why wasn't there a Dash 2? Why is T-Mobile selling the same device after almost 2 years?

Many thought that the HTC Cavalier S630 to be the successor to the original Dash. It has the same form factor, but adds a faster processor and 3G (heck, it even has T-Mobile's UMTS2100 band). But because the Cavalier turned out to be a dud (buggy with hardware quality issues), not to mention T-Mobile's 3G network wasn't ready when the Cavalier first came out the door, the Cavalier never came to life as the Dash 2.

Which doesn't mean that we won't see a Dash 2, but considering that HTC hasn't announced any new QWERTY candy-bar devices (and T-Mobile only gets its WinMo phones from HTC), it's not likely we'll an extension of the Dash brand.

The PDA is Not Dead!

Monday
Jun 23,2008

Many had predicted that the PDA would be dead with the emerging popularity of smartphones allowing users to make calls, manage their appointments, maintain a global contact list, and arrange their notes and to do lists all in one. GPS now adds to the popularity of the new all-in-one devices, making the decision to get an all-in-one for consumers easier as they don't have to carry more than one device to make calls, manage schedules, and find their way. However, it seems like predictions that the stand-alone PDAs as we used to know it in the days of the old Palm Pilot have not gone the way of the dodo bird just quite yet.

Gizmodo is reporting that the PDA will live yet again through new chip technology as HTC will explore new ways that PDAs will fill the gap between the limited functionalities of smartphones and UMPC, creating probably another connected class of device. The new PDA will have wireless capabilities, but will probably not be geared towards phone conversations.

With the new Atom computing chip from Intel and the new processor from Qualcomm, HTC will be looking at making Windows Mobile 7 devices ...
