I’ve harbored dreams about what my ideal laptop would look like for years. The HP 2133 actually comes close, which got me initially excited. But it still falls short on a couple of points. Perhaps I’ll see that dream fulfilled by next year, as a whole slew of these subnotes are headed for the market. First, it needs to be a tablet with a digitizer. I love writing with a pen. In fact, I have a decent collection of fountain pens I use regularly, but that’s a different story. I find I’m more c

If you are still wondering if you should get the HP iPAQ 210 Pocket PC, Werner has the ultimate review for you. This review goes into great detail… While certainly not without problems (touchscreen insensitivity, low-volume speaker, button reassignment problems, no official operating system upgrades, slightly worse outdoor visibility of the screen without backlight), I pretty much like the new iPAQ and I think it’s a decent upgrade from the hx4700 adding painfully missing features (SDHC, fo

Without doubt, during its almost four-year lifespan, the HP iPAQ hx4700 has turned out to be the best "traditional" (phone-less) high-resolution (640 * 480, also known as VGA) Pocket PC ever released certainly filling in a very important market segment: that of the comparatively (but not too) large VGA screens. The reasons for this are well-known when you compare it to the alternatives: Compared to the Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox 718 / 720, the major advantage of the hx4700 is the sheer existe

When we first reported on the
HP iPaq 900 series Windows Mobile Professional phone with a candybar QWERTY orientation, it was understated, elegant, and classy. However, recent pictures from
Engadget Mobile shows the device more rounded and in my opinion less attractive. The one positive note about the uglified design is that the iPaq 900 series, which may come to AT&T in the US, will utilize the keyboard of the Motorola Q9 series, which is one of the best mobile device keyboards on the market today.
Did the iPhone influence more chrome borders? The chrome border is apparent in the Motorola Q9c on Sprint, the BlackBerry 8800 series, the BlackJack II surrounding the side edge, and on the iPaq 900 series now.
The picture below shows the old design referenced in the corner.

Brighthand.com has received confirmation from a high-level HP executive stating that no Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrades will be released for current generation iPaq owners, even the newer, more recently released
iPaq 100 and
200 series handhelds.
HP will at a future date release devices with Windows Mobile 6.1 pre-installed.
While Windows Mobile 6.1 doesn't offer too many new compelling features on the Windows Mobile Professional platform, HP is one of the few companies that still makes standalone PDAs as most companies have shifted towards more converged devices that add GPS and/or phone functionality. This could be an instance where HP could show its commitment to its customers.
However, having said that, HP did not promise an update when users buy their devices. Users buy devices knowing that they are getting the version of the operating system that ships with the device. Perhaps this is one reason why I will continue to stick with HTC-made devices. There is a large user community that offers support, fixes, and hacks when HTC themselves may fail to provide this level of expertise or service.

The new HP 2133 Mini-Note computer is in the ultra-mobile computing space that the Eee PC and Cloudbook are in, but HP has outclassed its competitors. The new sub-notebook reported on
Gizmodo features a classy aluminum and plastic shell, bright high resolution 1280 X 768 display screen, decent speakers for its size, and a comfortable keyboard although it does have awkward vertical mouse buttons.
The basic configuration for the device running on a 4GB solid state PATA drive for around $499, although there are higher end configurations with faster processor (1.6 GHz VIA processor) at around $750 with a 100 GB drive.
According to
Notebook Review, the unit was a bit sluggish, especially running Vista. However, it handled most tasks fine. If you are looking for an ultra portable that looks more professional than the Asus Eee PC, you may want to take a look at the HP model.

Even though it's not a phone, HP took an opportunity at CTIA to announce the world's thinnest Windows Mobile device. Using a 4.1" VGA OLED display and a lithium-polymer battery, HP has packed a Windows Mobile Classic device into a credit card-sized package.
Other than the excellent display, it's not a high-end PDA. Here are the specs announced so far:
Intel Marvell 312 MHz processor
Windows Mobile 6.1 Classic
128 MB Flash ROM (58 MB available)
64 MB RAM
4.1" 640x480 VGA OLED screen
802.11b WiFi (not 802.11g!)
Bluetooth 2.0
MicroSDIO slot
There also aren't any application buttons and there's no directional pad, so you'll have to use the touchscreen to do everything.
While it may not be the most powerful PDA ever, look at the size of it. It's a Pocket PC that won't fill up that pocket!

In part 1 of our video review, I focus on the iPAQ 210's hardware.
The device is very well equipped, probably one of the most, if not the most powerful Windows Mobile device available. Enough memory to forget about the task manager and enough storage options and battery power to forget about your MP3 player or your laptop's hard drive. Lots of workspace in the dazzling 4 inch screen and all this fitted into a very elegant design that does a great job in turning heads around you.
Probably the one things I'd object as my personal opinion is that this device is retailed as an Enterprise Handheld. Even though WM itself is focused on enterprise and I think most devices available are targeted for it, it's interesting that the normal tendency of other enterprise devices like a Laptop, as opposed to a consumer one, is that it's thinner, lighter and in some cases, more powerful. We have tons of power in the iPAQ 210, and I must say I do appreciate the extra workspace the screen gives me, but did it have to be this thick?
You know, it probably isn't as thick ...

The updated specs are 16-bit 65k colors. I know there are some people out there who are very upset by this. Personally my poor old eyes probably couldn't tell the difference. The VGA screen look

How long have I waited, like lots of you, to get hold on the iPAQ 614c? Will it live up the expectations that I have for an all round Sat Nav, phone, PDA? Well today it arrived thanks to Clove Technology who have kindly provided the review unit. Introduction Firstly I would like to apologise if the review shows a slight bias, as I am looking to buy one of these units, and therefore may, inadvertently, look at it in a slightly different light. I will try and take off those rose tinted glasses,

HP continues to bet on the need for powerful, yet classic, Windows Mobile devices with their iPAQ 200 series. If you've been a Windows Mobile customer for as long as I have, you'll remember there is always one device that stands out as the total, no holds bar, power house for those who demand top quality performance in every aspect and where the price is the least to worry about. Interestingly though, HP jumps to compete with their powerful
iPAQ 210 handheld, at a price you'd typically pay for mid end Pro or Standard device. So then the dilemma begins when you think about carrying a Classic device and a dumb phone, or a high end Smartphone for the price of both.
Will HP give you enough of a motive to switch back to a Classic? More videos to come!
If you want a clue about my first impression, I'll tell you this much: It's BIG!

The HP iPAQ Pocket PC hx2790 is the perfect handheld computer for the professional who values the combination of the traditional, the familiar, and the versatile in their technological innovations. The HP iPAQ Pocket PC hx2790 stays true as the classic PDA, but with a different twist. It is designed to offer more than what we have been accustomed to using in this new century, where pets can actually run on batteries and the web is more than a thing we remove from the corners of our ceiling. It
