After long delays, HP has finally released the HP iPAQ 910c/900 and GottaBeMobile has just done a brief review of the device. The HP iPAQ 900 series does bear the candybar QWERTY form factor that was popularized by the Palm Treo. The HP iPAQ line of smartphones have had some trouble with seeing timely launched. Having been announced in late 2007, the iPAQ 914c/914/900 Series is now seeing the light of day.

The communicator has a landscape oriented touchscreen display running Windows Mobile Professional, which is a stray from the traditional square screens used in Palm's line of Windows Mobile Professional devices.

The phone operates on 3G tri-band HSDPA, quad-band GSM, and has WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS according to the HP press release.

Engadget Mobile is reporting worldwide availability starting the end of this month, with pricing to vary according to country or region. It will be $500 in the US.

HP announced today that its newest smartphone, the iPAQ 910 Business Messenger, will begin shipping at the end of this month.

Last month I bought the HP tx2000z for less than $1000. There were all sorts of deals like free shipping, free webcam/microphone/fingerprint scanner, free RAM upgrades, free hard drive upgrades, free Bluetooth upgrades, etc. Of course I shopped around and Tablet PCs with similar specifications from other manufacturers were more than double the price!

Just about everyone I've told about this has quickly picked one up for themselves. Typical configurations include dual core AMD Turion 2Ghz CPU, 3GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, DVD-R with Lightscribe, webcam, fingerprint scanner, Penabled Wacom digitizer with touchscreen (pressure sensitive using stylus), 12.1 HD widescreen, etc. The price has since gone up to a bit over $1000, but it is still quite a deal. That also includes Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Media Center, and a Media Center remote that fits in the Express Card slot.

While it may not be the top-of-the-line Tablet PC, it is much better than my old TC1000 and much more wallet-friendly.
