Asus EEE-PC 900 completely misses the pointI finally got around to reviewing Asus' lilliputian notebook the other day (the EEE-PC 701); something I'd been putting off for quite some time. I've had it for months but seldom use it, so it wasn't until last weekend that I was able to sit down with it and formulate a review. Ironically, the new EEE-PC 900 is out imminently but I can't see myself being an early adopter for it. Last week I was contacted by the PR company who deal with Asus, telling me

Companies like Asus and HTC are trying to create devices that focus more on the user experience in order to target smartphones at the consumer level and not just at enterprise users. Asus is now following in HTC's lead in developing customized user interfaces that sit on top of Windows Mobile, like the
HTC Home and other customized applications. Asus' interface is known as Glide.
Overall,
Gizmodo isn't too thrilled with Asus' efforts. The Glide user interface was criticized for having clashing fonts and discontinuity, although it did include a photo application, a DJ utility, and a launcher. Like the HTC Home, the home screen of the Glide user interface does have a little widget for weather.

Introduction Love it or hate, there is not denying the popularity of the Asus Eee PC, demand for the 701 has far exceeded supply since it was originally launched last year. In fact these are still very hard to get hold of. I've been using my 701 for about 6 months and love the portability of it, sometimes you just don't need a 'proper' laptop to do what you want to do. New versions of the Eee PC have been on the cards for quite some time and finally Asus have launched the new 900 model. Very

Sorry, but I’ve USED Windows CE before. I know just how terribly unresponsively it performs. I know how terribly limited the selection of available software is I know how crippled all the “pocket” apps are. I know just how completely lacking external hardware drivers (eg. printers) are. If you need more than something that just barely lets you type basic documents and sync them with your desktop, WinCE is a lame duck. The HPC form-factor is quite nice, but the realities of using one for any l

GPS navigation is not one of those things most users consider to be crucial in a PDA-phone, at least not in the same way as features like W-Fi and Bluetooth are. But even though most consider it to be a bonus rather than a requirement, it is surprisingly found in quite a few entry-level devices even when high-end ones give it a miss.

Pocket-lint.co.uk brings word of a new sub-$500 PC making the rounds at the CeBIT show in Germany: the ECS G10IL, obviously a competitor to the Eee PC from Asus. Details are reportedly sketchy, but the laptop apparently includes three USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, VGA connection, 56k modem and built-in HSDPA 7.2 -- the latter of which seems like an interesting choice, given the relative cost of Wi-Fi components versus HSDPA. Meanwhile, Asus has launched the Eee PC 900 12G, a slightly more
