Apple has been known to state that its platform is superior because the software and hardware are well integrated and that is why things work together so well. It looks like Gigabyte is borrowing that very same line, touting that its new Smart Touch UI is far superior to the iPhone due to the tight-knit integration of software and hardware, according to reports from Engadget Mobile. The good news for those who want to jump ship on the iPhone bandwagon for the second generation 3G iPhone with high speed internet is that there are rumors floating around the internet that AT&T may subsidize the highly coveted device to maybe $200 or $300. While these are purely rumors and speculations at this point, and should be considered a rumor until the device is announced and/or released, what does this imply for other devices? Is AT&T's partnership with Apple so tight that it may sacrifice its relationship with other device manufacturers to make the iPhone version 2 successful?

Consider this: Engadget Mobile reported that the upcoming Garmin Nuvifone with its own proprietary operating system will be priced at around $500 with contract. While this is inline with the regular pricing of current iPhones, the device is still slightly more expensive. However, if the rumored second generation pricing comes true, then would you even consider the Nuvifone? This is especially dangerous if the rumors of GPS, 3G, and free AT&T WiFi hotspots come true on the second generation iPhone.

Photos and details are beginning to emerge on the new HTC Diamond smartphone that has been widely reported over the internet these past few weeks. The first official photos are shown below. The phone is rumored to have a motion sensor to automatically change the display orientation, much like the iPhone, to switch from portrait to landscape depending on how you hold the phone.

The iPhone sure inspired some new hardware features for HTC, including a higher resolution VGA display in a compact-sized smartphone and the accelerometer.

There has been a wave of applications to make Windows Mobile behave more like an iPhone. To name a few, we have GoodWin, PointUI, and even programs like Pocket Plus that adds flick support for scrolling.

But there are still other elements of the iPhone UI that haven't been ported to Windows Mobile, like the flick from screen to screen, jiggling icons, and multi-touch pinch to zoom. As reported by Engadget Mobile, a new project from Flick Software will bring some of these enhancements to Windows Mobile sometime in May. You can see some of these features in the video above.

Back in March, our own Adam Lein wrote 42 Reasons You Still Don't Want an iPhone, which got bumped up to 55 reasons. Now another Windows Mobile fan, Tim Hillebrand, has done a similar story, 30 Reasons Why Windows Mobile Is Superior To iPhone, at Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine.

Now that the acquisition of Danger, makers of the T-Mobile Sidekick otherwise known as the HipTop, is complete for $500 million, Microsoft will make a play for the consumer market, opening up the Premium Mobile Devices unit, a sub-group under the Windows Mobile umbrella.

Wall Street Journal's technology pundit says the a version of the iPhone with 3G cellular-wireless access is coming in the next two months.

Rumors on the next version of the iPhone have been coming thick and fast in the last week or so. The most recent of these is the first to say much about what this upcoming smartphone will look like.

A lot of Windows Mobile users are looking over to the Apple camp to see what Apple does next and how Windows Mobile could improve in the area of the user interface. However, despite not having a metal case and glass screen for the "cool" touch, what Windows Mobile has is stellar reception. Windows Mobile phones have some of the best reception of the phones on the market, something that the iPhone does seem to struggle with in areas with poor or more limited reception. To combat this, the iPhone is changing from the metal case to perhaps a black glossy plastic backing. The iPod Observer has posted a picture of the iPhone back with a new glossy black plastic, similar to the Samsung BlackJack II. Could this be the next generation iPhone sporting a 3G radio?

This may in fact prove to be true, although this should get filed in the rumor section for now. The plastic casing may improve radio quality. This is evident in the plastic MacBook getting a little bit better WiFi reception than its bigger brother, the MacBook Pro in aluminum.
